Letter options

Your random letters

A starting letter for your next word game.
Choose your settings, then generate.

Each available letter has an equal chance on a fresh draw. Results stay on this page; no-repeat applies within each batch.

Using this tool

Draw from the alphabet you need

Select all 26 English letters, the five vowels A, E, I, O and U, or the remaining 21 consonants. Y belongs to the consonant pool in this tool. Uppercase and lowercase change how results look, without changing which letters are eligible.

Generate a single letter or a list

Use one letter for a quick category round. Generate several letters when you need prompts for separate rounds or a letter-based writing exercise. With repeats disabled, the quantity cannot exceed the selected pool. Each new batch starts with the complete pool again.

Agree on your word-game rules first

A uniformly selected alphabet gives Q and X the same chance as A and S. Agree whether difficult letters are allowed before drawing. For a complete timed category activity, the Categories Game supplies a starting letter, six categories, a countdown and score entry.

Frequently asked questions

Are letters equally likely?

Each letter in the chosen pool has the same chance on the first draw. With repeats off, each remaining letter has an equal chance on the next draw. The tool uses browser cryptographic randomness.

Can I generate all letters in a random order?

Yes. Select all letters, set the quantity to 26 and select “No repeats in this batch”. The result is a shuffled English alphabet.

Does this use an official board-game letter distribution?

No. It uses the English alphabet or the vowel and consonant subsets described above. It does not reproduce a particular commercial game’s dice or letter frequencies.
